Big Data & Research
Is mathematics the queen of all sciences or is it just a beautiful tool to conduct scientific inquiry? No matter what you think, mathematical analysis is rapidly becoming an important part of most businesses. We at Big Data Analysis understand the mathematical treatment of a problem before its technical implementation.
Trajectories of proteins
The biomedical simulations at the Institute of Medical Statistics (CeMSIIS) show the paths of large protein molecules. The duration of 200 nanoseconds is enough time for a molecule to wind countless times in all directions. In order to understand the function of this protein, it is necessary to find rigid regions, i.e. regions of the molecule with little movement. Here Big Data Analysis can help. We work with a new method called ‘spatiotemporal clusters’ developed specifically for this purpose. This method has been used successfully and is also the subject of scientific publications.
